The post How Important Is Rest Time for Children first appeared on teachers Resources.]]>
All children no matter what age need a sleep, rest or quiet time in their day. This will enable them to feel refreshed and rested. All childcare centers, kindergartens, and preschools have rest time as a policy when caring for children.

Children are very busy people. They are active in their play and we arrange activities for them which may require concentration and language input. Becoming tired is an understandable consequence of play. Being flexible in your days planning is important if you are catering to children and their many needs.

Rest time is often an after lunch plan. It is a good way to ease children in to their rest. They are able to eat lunch, go to the toilet, wash their hands and clean their teeth before settling to rest. Some children will settle immediately but others may need to look at a book for 5 – 10 minutes before settling. Keep to a routine from day one and every child will soon learn that this is rest time. By calling it rest time you will not be placing importance on sleeping as some children will not sleep in the day or at every rest period.

Some Points to Consider at Rest Time

The length of rest time will vary according to the age of the children. Observe each child and adjust time accordingly. How comfortable are the beds or mats and do they need a pillow. Converse with parents about their child’s sleep and rest patterns. Make a short questionnaire for parents to fill in which will give you basic information. Do they need a special comforter, toy or dummy they usually sleep with so they settle well. Decide if you will allow reading books at the beginning and the end of rest time. Decide if quiet music will be played.

What do you do with the children who finish their resting early. They could look at books, or listen to a story. You can give them one silent toy to play with. This could be seen as a time for children to sit on a friends bed and socialize. Older children in a class room also need quiet time during the day. This is often a time for quiet reading. Try having blankets you can spread on the grass in the shade for listening to music or a story.

Teachers also need a break so be a role model and do some quiet reading yourself. Resting through the day, be it only for a short period, refreshes everyone and enables them to become focused again on work and play.

All smart teachers know the importance of saving their physical and emotional energy in their work life. As a teacher you will use up a lot of energy teaching learners. Using up physical and emotional energy may find you depleted and tired. Talking most of the day; planning lessons; dealing with challenging children; being available and contributing at peer meetings; setting up the environment so it is interesting and challenging; dealing with parents; finding time to eat, drink and go to the toilet; and topping it all off with professional development, are all part of a teachers busy week.

If you want to save energy and have some left for your other life, try the following.

Wake just half an hour early and take a brisk walk around the block. This will increase endorphins and pep you up for the start of your day.

Shower, dress, makeup, and have a good breakfast. You need to care for yourself and a good breakfast will build up a supply of energy for the day.

Start the school year by being organized. Have your learning area set up so it is simple and flexible.

Simplify your observation techniques to cater for each child’s development. Checklists are a good way of watching children over the year. Have a check list for each child and each area of development. At the end of the year you will find it easy to write reports about progress and to find areas of concern as the year progresses. Assess your check lists for workability and review at the end of the year for the next years learners.

Know your learners and their learning styles. This will give you an idea of how you will teach, to cater to all learners in your care.

Make your lesson plans simple, to the point, and reusable. It is such a waste of energy if you put together a lesson plan and are able to use it just once. Scout for e classes that you can drop into your lesson plans. Many teachers have taught before you and will be a wealth of information.

Plan with other teachers if you have the same grade of learners. Or divide up the curriculum and each write plans you can share.

Have written and adhered to classroom rules which have been worked out with your learners. Give parents a copy.

Make known what the boundaries are for behavior and enforce them. Be firm but flexible.

Children learn best if lessons are short and simple and one concept at a time is being taught. Don’t crowd your lessons with concepts that need to be practiced and remembered. It is best to have a few short lessons to build on concepts.

Accept help from parents and make valuable use of your teacher’s aid. You are not a one man band. A skillful teacher knows how to delegate to get the most from learning experiences.

Make appointment times for parents who wish to talk with you as this will save time and energy.

Make sure you make time for morning tea and lunch. This is your time and should be spent refueling for the next lessons.

When your day is complete, go home!! Relax for a period before you need to continue your home life. You have earned it and deserve it.

Join the ranks of all smart teachers and include these 14 tips in your daily routine.

Classroom Project Management Tools

Projects are one-time, multiple component jobs that require a team to complete.

The teacher is the project manager for a complex project. The project team includes bus drivers, cooks, lab instructors, librarians, custodians, campus administrators, psychologists, counselors, school nurses, special education teachers, and others.

The teacher is given the responsibility for this project, and the task is to build individualized learning experiences for about twenty to maybe thirty students. The teacher is not given the authority to manage this project, nor is the teacher given an adequate budget or enough resources such as Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), Team Members (staff help: aides and clerical help), or materials.

It is a paradox of teaching that a teacher, with all this help on their project team, would feel so isolated and alone. This paradox exists because the teacher does not have the authority to direct other members of the project team. The fact that this relationship is backward is a fact of a teacher’s role that teachers must learn to accept.

Project management is a systematic set of procedures that define the following steps or stages:

Define the Problem that the Project will Resolve

Brainstorm Solutions and Options
Plan the Project
What needs to be done?
Who will do what needs to be done?
How will the project be done?
By when must the project be done?
How much will the project cost?
What resources do we need?
What are the risks and threats that might ruin or delay the project?

Work the Plan

Assess, Monitor, and Control the Project
Are we on target?
What must be done to get on target…stay on target.
Should we change the plan to make our outcomes better?

End the Project

What was done well?
What could we have improved?
What else did we learn from this project?

Homework help is plentiful and readily available especially now in the connected world we live in. If you are finding yourself burdened by biology assignments, we outline some pointers to get assistance.

Textbook answers

Most textbooks you use in your course have accompanying answer booklets. An online search of the author’s name plus the key phrase ‘answer book’ might yield the answer booklet. You can purchase the answer booklet and use it to tackle assignments derived from class textbooks.

Hire a tutor

Consider the option of getting remedial lessons from a tutor if you are finding it hard coping with your assignments. A tutor will take you through the course content and a pace suited to you, provide assistance during homework and act as a personalized teacher.

Online searches

The internet has all your answers. An online search in the context of your work can reveal answers and additional information. Some websites allow you to ask questions on a range of topic and provide answers either for free or for a fee. Post your questions there to find solutions or find posts of similar questions and browse the solutions offered.

Online help

There are sites which offer dedicated biology assignment help to students at a fee. Usually, you are provided an online tutor who not only does the work for you but also gives a step by step explanation of the solution. They are easily reachable and are available at your convenience. Such sites provide a cheaper option compared to physical tutors.

Fellow students

Join or form a study group with your classmate to tackle assignments and other course related matters. Reaching out to your fellows helps you get a broader picture and a different perspective to what you are studying. Study groups are a great way to tackle assignments via the shared knowledge pull.

School Mentors

It’s important to have mentors in school. These can be students in higher classes who are performing well academically or teachers. Cultivate a working relationship with your mentors and approach them with your problems. Since they have more knowledge and experience, they will often have the solution you are looking for.

A mix of both traditional and modern technologies have been presented to help you get the best help to complete your homework. That said, you have to do your part by choosing the option or mix of options that best suit you.

Ideas That Helped Homework

Homework is a splendid way to enhance skill, knowledge and aptitude to have a good command on the topic or the piece of lecture that was taught in school. Students can use their own creativity and come up with different set of ideas to complete it. It not only encourages their thinking skills, problem solving aptitude and organizational skills but much more than that.

If you are looking for some highly innovative ideas to make you stand out of the crowd, following tips can be of great help:

Check them out

Do an intensive research not only when homework is provided to you but in your free time too for the topics you feel you are week in. Go through the search engines and find ways of doing project works and other assignments. Look at various sources and the ways any topic is taught with lively and bright examples. Jot them down on a separate place and refer them whenever required.

Whenever you feel the helplessness while doing your homework, do not hesitate to seek help of some experienced person. His proficiency, years of experience and knowledge might help you in various ways.

Ask as many questions in class as you can but remember the questions should be relevant, to the topic and not absurd. They will assist you in completing your questions at home.

Never procrastinate. It will only waste your time and never solve your issues.

Solve stress busters from additional books. It will boost your proficiency and you will have a good hand on your topic.

Sit on a comfy seat. Ensure that there is good ventilation in your room. Absence of adequate oxygen and light just creates drudgery and lethargy lengthening the time of assignments.

Always choose a place away from commotion. It will prevent distractions while increasing the speed of your studies. Keep a bottle of water with you.

Gather all the stationary and books that you might need at the time of studies as frequent leaving of study table prevents you to boost concentration. Keep all the reference books and class notes of that particular subject with you ready.

Play music if you find it supporting. It might keep the monotony away

Call your friend if you have a query but remember, the conversation should be short and crisp otherwise it will waste your time. Furthermore, stay away from gadgets like TV, Cell phone, internet etc. Take help of internet only for studies. Do not play useless videos. They are a sheer waste of time and energy. Time flies away as you turn them on.
