Rainbow Word Wall Climb Games

Rainbow Word Wall Climb Games

Set of Five For learning and revision of high-frequency words

The ‘Rainbow Word Wall Climb Games, One to Five’ are designed to provide essential practice in the recognition of the first 100 ‘high-frequency’ words.

These games teach children to recognize the most common words quickly, painlessly, and with fun. They can then begin to read more easily.

Many of these words cannot be sounded out, so they need to be learned as “sight words”. Children who learn these words will have a sound base for beginning reading.

It is estimated that the 25 most common words make up about 30% of what we read. And the 100 most common words make up about 50% of what we read. As children learn these words their confidence as readers greatly improve simply because they can recognize at least half of the words on the page.

These games allow children to learn these essential words in a fun way.

These games could be the best investment you ever make for your children.

Each game can be played by 2-6 players.

Player One takes their turn to roll the dice. Player One must read the ‘sight word’ that they land on. If the player cannot read the word they must go back to where they moved from. ‘Move ahead’, ‘Go back’, and ‘Roll again’ spaces add the element of chance to the game. Play continues with the next player in turn until one player lands on or passes ‘Finish’ and is declared the winner.

They can then play again with the next board!

Fantastic for use during rotations in the morning literacy block! Suitable for all Junior Primary levels of schooling.
